Inlays and onlays are dental alternatives to filling a cavity. They are stronger than a traditional filling and can also be an alternative to crowns. Furthermore, there are more colors available with inlays and outlays, making it easier to match the exact color of your existing teeth.
Inlays bond with the cavity on tip of the tooth. Conversely, onlays extend beyond the tip of the tooth and are generally for larger cavities. Both are available in various materials such as porcelain, gold or a composite and can greatly increase the strength of your tooth.
Often times, inlays and onlays require two procedures. First, your dentist will remove the decayed area of the tooth and make an impression to send to our dental lab. When complete, your dentist will fit and bond the inlay or onlay to your tooth.
